Eclipse, a black Labrador and Mastiff mix, has become a local celebrity in Seattle for her unique daily routine. This independent pooch hops on a bus to visit a nearby park. “Every bus driver knows her. She sits just like any other passenger,” says Tiona Rainwater, a regular commuter.

Eclipse’s adventure started quite accidentally. Her owner, Jeff Young, was taking too long to finish a cigarette at a bus stop. Not one to wait, the eager dog boarded the arriving bus alone and alighted at the park. From that day on, Jeff knew he could always find Eclipse frolicking in the park later.
Eclipse has since mastered the 3-4 stops on the D-line route to the park. Although some officials feel she should be leashed, King County permits dogs on public transport at the driver’s discretion. Thankfully, Eclipse is a well-behaved passenger who brings smiles to fellow commuters’ faces, making drivers more than willing to accommodate her.

Eclipse seems to enjoy her autonomous city life. Her Facebook profile boasts, “I love my big city life and enjoy taking the D line daily to the Belltown dog park.” If you ride a D-line bus in Seattle, watch out for this furry passenger. With a bus pass attached to her collar, she’s all set for her favorite park.

In the words of Tiona Rainwater, “She makes everybody happy. How could you not love this face?” Check out the video below if you’re curious to see Eclipse in action.
