Meet Hero, a dog who once knew the harsh reality of living on the streets with his owner. Although his owner loved him dearly, he realized he couldn’t give Hero the care he deserved. He made the difficult decision to entrust Hero to a rescue group in sunny California. Due to a surplus of pets, many are relocated to British Columbia, and Hero was one of the fortunate ones selected for this journey to find his forever home.
Enter Sarah and her husband, who heard about Hero’s story. Sarah felt an immediate kinship with Hero as someone who works with people without homes. Sarah was instantly smitten when they met him but played it cool in front of her husband so as not to sway his opinion. However, when she finally confessed her deep affection for Hero, her husband surprised her by sharing the same sentiment.
With adoptive parents who loved him deeply, Hero was ready to embark on his new life in his forever home. Sarah lovingly describes Hero as a “velvety bag of rocks” due to his solid, muscular build contrasting his squishy, oddly folded skin. Hero has captured their hearts in a big way.
Interestingly, Hero isn’t much of a fan of exercise. He’ll take a quick walk around the block before eagerly returning to the comfort of his home. Sarah suspects that this may be because, after spending so much time outdoors, he now finds the most incredible comfort within the walls of his house.
Hero shares a profound bond with his human family. When scared or unwell, he retreats to his safe spot: the bath mat. One day, when Sarah came home distressed, Hero dragged his bath mat over to her, offering her his version of comfort and safety. It was a touching moment that highlighted their deep connection.
