Violet, a gentle mastiff with a heart full of love, yearned for one thing – the affection of her family. Unfortunately, her family was devoid of empathy and compassion, treating Violet with cruel indifference.

Violet, despite her loving nature, was subjected to relentless neglect. The situation escalated to the point where her family decided to abandon her entirely. They drove down a road in Clinton, Maryland, and heartlessly tossed Violet out of their car window.

A passerby on that fateful road was appalled to witness Violet being discarded like an unwanted piece of trash. Without hesitation, the kind stranger rushed to Violet’s aid and took her to Prince George’s County Animal Control.

Once at the animal control center, Violet was transferred to Mutts Matter Rescue. The team there vowed to do everything possible to assist the mistreated canine. Violet wasn’t just abandoned; she was severely malnourished, having been starved for a prolonged period.

Debbie Gretz, a volunteer at Mutts Matter Rescue, who is experienced with abused and underweight dogs, took Violet into her care. Upon meeting Violet and seeing her pitiful condition, Gretz was moved to tears.

Gretz was determined to help Violet regain her life, promising to provide the love and care the poor dog had been denied for so long. She was resolved to restore Violet’s stolen dignity and ensure her future would be bright and happy.

When Violet came into Gretz’s care, she was emaciated, weighing only 60 pounds, and riddled with painful pressure sores. When Gretz hugged Violet, she could feel every bone in the mastiff’s frail body. Blood tests revealed complications typically seen in starved animals.

Violet’s pressure sores suggested she had spent considerable time chained up. The team at Mutts Matter Rescue speculated that she had been confined and used for breeding.

Despite the horrific abuse she had endured, Violet’s trust in humanity remained unbroken. She quickly formed a bond with Gretz, often laying her head in Gretz’s lap as a sign of love and gratitude.

Gretz fed Violet five small meals each day, gradually restoring her health and strength. Violet learned to climb stairs and regained enough energy to walk and play with her friends. Her pressure sores healed, and she began to gain weight.

After months of care, Violet transformed from a skeletal 60-pound dog to a healthy 138-pound beauty radiating joy. The journey to recovery was long and arduous, but Gretz’s devotion enabled Violet to thrive.

Gretz not only nursed Violet back to physical health but also showered her with the affection and security she’d always craved.

Today, Violet is no longer the scared, heartbroken dog she once was. Thanks to Gretz, she has become a vibrant, loving pup who enjoys life with her new family, finally experiencing the safety and health she deserves.
