In a world where pets are considered family, it’s truly disheartening to encounter stories of abandonment. But that’s precisely what unfolded recently at Pittsburgh International Airport.
A 7-year-old French Bulldog found alone in a stroller at the airport became the center of a puzzling investigation. Despite efforts, the Allegheny County Police couldn’t reach the owner via the dog’s microchip, leading them to believe the puppy was intentionally left behind.
The mystery began to unravel when they discovered that the owner was informed her furry friend couldn’t accompany her on the flight without a crate. The airline staff remained unconvinced despite the owner’s claim that the dog was her emotional support animal.
What’s more shocking is that this wasn’t a case of an emergency travel situation. The woman was en route to a resort destination. She chose her vacation over her pet’s well-being, leaving the helpless creature behind at the airport.
Fortunately, the story isn’t all grim. The state dog warden took charge of the abandoned French Bulldog, as revealed by the Allegheny Police on Facebook. The dog was reportedly in good health and has since been placed under the care of Animal Friends.
While unable to comment on the ongoing investigation, Animal Friends assured the public that they provided the necessary treatment and care for the dog.
Pennsylvania state law views abandoning a dog as animal cruelty, punishable by a fine of up to $1,000. The owner is expected to face these charges soon.
The incident has sparked outrage online, with people expressing sympathy for the poor dog and condemning its former owner. Some even expressed interest in adopting the dog.
One commenter perfectly summed it up: ” I think the dog is better off with a new owner. Poor baby.”
No pet deserves to be abandoned, especially for something as trivial as a vacation. Let’s hope this sweet French Bulldog finds a loving home soon and its former owner is held accountable for her actions.
